What to expect from a road bike

    Aluminium vs. carbon:
    Differences and advantages

What type of road bike suits you?

    FAQs

Road bike or gravel bike – what are the differences?
A road bike is primarily designed for use on tarmac and paved roads. Typical features are narrow tyres, a low weight and a strongly bent riding position. This enables high speeds and efficient power transfer. Road bikes are ideal for endurance training, sporty tours and competitions.

Compared to a road bike, a gravel bike is not quite as fast on the road, but is more versatile off-road. For more off-road potential, it has wider tyres, a more upright riding position and more stable handling. Gravel bikes are therefore ideal if you want to go fast off-road, for example on gravel, dirt paths or forestry tracks.

How important is the weight of a road bike?
A lightweight road bike is quicker to accelerate and easier to ride uphill, which is essential in road cycling. Designers focus on lightweight frame materials and high-quality components. As these are often more expensive, the purchase decision is usually a compromise between budget and ambition. In recreational sport, a few grams can still be made up for through fitness. However, if you're riding at your performance limit and competing against others, every second and every gram can count.
What does the system weight mean?
The system weight indicates the weight limit with which the road bike may be loaded. However, it is not only the weight of the rider that is taken into account, but also clothing, equipment, luggage and the weight of the bike itself. All values added together must not exceed the maximum system weight.
Will my road bike be delivered assembled?
Even if you want to buy your road bike online, assembly is not a problem. Your road bike is delivered safely packed and pre-assembled. It only takes a few steps to get it ready to ride. Detailed instructions are included in the package. You can also find a short video tutorial here.
Can I return my road bike if I don't like it?
Yes, you have a 14-day right of return. If the road bike does not meet your expectations, you can return it. Please note that in this case the road bike should be unused and in its original packaging.
Is a test ride possible before the purchase?
You are welcome to test ride your dream bike in one of our stores. This is the best way to decide whether and in which size the desired road bike suits you and your expectations. Take a look at an overview of the ROSE Stores near you and book an appointment for a test ride. You will also find a list of available test bikes on the respective store pages.
Is there a warranty on the road bike?
Yes, of course we offer a warranty on your new road bike. The statutory warranty period of 2 years applies to all bikes. We also offer a voluntary manufacturer's warranty for ROSE frames, ROSE forks and selected ROSE wheels: If one of the aforementioned parts is covered by our ROSE Crash Replacement Service (as indicated in its product description) and gets damaged by a crash or broken in an accident, we will replace your ROSE frame, ROSE fork or ROSE wheel with the same or comparable model of our current product range for 50% of the sales price within six years from the date of purchase.

The essential characteristics of a road bike

Maximum speeds, brute acceleration and a design to die for: No bike epitomises the essence of cycling like the road bike. With its characteristically curved handlebar and the slim silhouette, it has exerted an unbroken fascination on generations of cyclists. Inseparably linked with great races and names. A bike made for top performance on routes whose length, curves and elevation profile command the respect of even motorised riders. Welcome to the world of road cycling!

You've come to the right place if speed and performance mean everything to you. Or if you want to see as much as possible on your rides and get everything out of your exercise. With road bikes that convert every pedal stroke into propulsion thanks to lightweight materials, high-tech components and aggressive geometries. Aerodynamically optimised and equipped with narrow tyres to get the most out of asphalt roads. And with an optimum balance of smooth running and agility, you can tackle even the steepest Alpine passes and serpentine roads at top speed.

Immerse yourself in this world, experience the speed, go on your longest tours and chase your next record - in a race against others or yourself. Because the experiences are what we build our road bikes for.

Materials in road cycling: Aluminium vs. Carbon

While filigree steel frames ruled the roads for decades, today's road bikes are predominantly made of carbon or aluminium. Both materials offer significant weight advantages and are also ahead in terms of rigidity. This saves ballast on the mountain and ensures more efficient power transfer.

In racing, carbon fibre is the ultimate in terms of an unbeatable stiffness-to-weight ratio and has even better damping values, i.e. comfort. Aluminium road bikes, on the other hand, are cheaper and are considered more robust, which is why they are sometimes still preferred by recreational cyclists.

    Road bikes with carbon frames

    • Very light, making it ideal for races and long distances
    • Power saving thanks to more efficient shock and vibration damping
    • Ideal power transfer and acceleration

    Road bikes with aluminium frame

    • Cheaper than carbon frames
    • Very hard-wearing
    • Lighter than steel frames, but heavier than carbon frames
    • Good power transfer

    Race

Maximum performance and best times in training or racing - that's what you can expect from a carbon race bike. Everything on this road bike is made for propulsion: Aerodynamic, ultra-light frames meet rims with the same characteristics. Optimised stiffness ensures perfect power transfer. The riding position: central and deep for maximum pedalling efficiency. The riding behaviour is also agile, allowing you to maintain control even in fast bends. Races are won on bikes like this.

    Features:

    • Particularly lightweight and aerodynamic
    • Agile geometry
    • Athletically stretched posture
    • Focus on speed

    Target group:

    • Experienced and/or performance-oriented riders
    • Race participants

    Endurance

The fascination of long distances is as old as the sport of road cycling itself. Whether you want to ride around your holiday island, take part in a cycling marathon or simply go on extended weekend tours - the endurance bike is the perfect choice. In contrast to the race bike, you sit a little more upright. Thanks to adapted geometries, comfort and smooth running are increased so that you tire less quickly. The slightly wider tyres also contribute to this and add more flexibility to your choice of route.

    Features:

    • Upright riding position
    • Smooth-running geometry
    • Often wider tyres
    • Partly damping elements
    • Focus on long-distance comfort

    Target group:

    • Beginners and advanced riders
    • Comfort-oriented touring riders
    • Marathon riders

    Intended use:

    • Training
    • Long tours with varying terrain
    • Cycling marathon

    Features:

    • Support from electric motor
    • Comfort-orientated geometry
    • Mostly wider tyres
    • Comparatively low additional weight

    Target group:

    • Beginners and advanced riders
    • Tour riders
    • Cyclists who want additional reserves

    Intended use:

    • Fitness & weight loss
    • Long and extended tours
    • Many metres in altitude
